After finally getting my passport returned to me at the last minute, it was pretty much time to go.
After a final day of goodbyes we got on a plane on a Saturday night and were gone. It was the perfect flight to sleep on, leaving at 7.30pm we could have dinner, watch a couple of movies, and then get at least a few hours of sleep in to pass the 13 hours.
Well, that was the plan. I couldn’t sleep at all on the flight. I watched The Lego Movie, Anchorman 2, Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters (that one almost did it), Runner Runner, an episode of Archer (had seen it before, but highly recommend that show), and even listened to a couple of hours of Spanish lessons while trying to sleep… and yet I got nothing. I actually wrote that Visa Saga and Arctic Monkeys review as well during the flight.
Being me is the worst sometimes. At least I was wide awake for the landing in San Fran, standing in lines there, and the rush to the other terminal to make our connection to Vegas. I had always thought 2 hours would be fine for that gap, but the airport was busy and it did cut it a little close.
We flew out of San Fran on a typically American plane (I guess?), and arrived in late in the afternoon - I should have been tired, but I was mostly just excited to get into things (and also to have a shower).
Friends met us at our hotel, we had a quick shower and then went out for the night. After a quick (and fantastic) meal at a Gordon Ramsay burger restaurant (because it’s what you do in Vegas?) our friends went off to a show, and we went off to wander around.
By “wander around” I do largely mean walk around aimlessly. Well, unless buying drinks at every pharmacy counts as having an aim.
Some hours later we had gone through several of the casinos down the South end of the strip, watched the Bellagio fountains, and eventually come to rest at a bar in our hotel playing video blackjack and continuing to have a few drinks.
We decided it was probably time to call it a night around 12.30am local time when drinks were spilled and I hit on a 20 - that was around 36 hours of so since I had woken up.
